Taking a room out of order

Out of order removes a room from availability for a period, with a reason.

A room that must not be sold — a burst pipe, a refurbishment, a broken lock — goes out of order for a date range, with a reason from your hotel's OOO list.

While it is out of order:

• It disappears from availability, so nobody can book it by accident and the occupancy percentage is calculated against the rooms you can actually sell.
• It shows on the out-of-order report with its reason and its dates, which is what a general manager reads to ask why room 214 has been out for six weeks.
• The range ends by itself. A room does not stay out of order because somebody forgot to put it back.

Do not use out of order to hold a room for a VIP — that is a booking, and holding it this way hides a sellable room from every report.
