Rooms out of order, and for how long
Give an out-of-order room a date range. A room with no end date is out for ever.
Taking a room out of order removes it from availability so it cannot be sold — for maintenance, deep cleaning, or damage.
Always give it a date range. A room marked out of order with no end date stays out of order indefinitely, and a hotel quietly loses inventory nobody is looking for.
Two things worth knowing:
- A room out of order next week is still sellable this week. The dates are respected, not just the flag.
- Out-of-order rooms are excluded from what is sent to the OTAs, so the channel cannot sell one either.
When the work finishes early, clear the dates rather than waiting — that room goes back on sale immediately, including online.
