When goods leave the hotel: delivery notes and e-way bills
A hotel sells rooms and food and neither moves — but stock transferred between two stores, goods sent for repair, and equipment sold do. Each is a delivery note, and above the state's threshold it needs an e-way bill before it travels.
Menu → E-way bills. Three things actually move out of a hotel: stock transferred to another store, goods sent for job work or repair, and a sale of goods that leaves the premises. Each needs a document, and above a value, a government number before the vehicle starts.
The delivery note
- A note from a stock transfer takes a transfer the store has already made and values it at cost, with the tax the two registrations imply: CGST and SGST within a state, IGST across one, and nothing at all when both stores sit under the same GSTIN — a movement inside one registration is not a supply.
- Type a delivery note is the other door, for a sale, a return, a sample or goods going for repair: the two parties, the lines with HSN, quantity and value, the distance, the transporter and the vehicle.
Does it need an e-way bill?
The rule is data, not opinion: the consignment value threshold (₹50,000 centrally; a state may set its own for movements inside it — Delhi, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu are each ₹1 lakh), and the exemptions — under 50 km inside one state needs Part A only, a non-motorised conveyance needs nothing. The screen answers yes, no, or Part A only, and says why in words, before anything is generated.

Part A, Part B, and afterwards
Part A is the two parties, the document, the HSN lines, the value and the distance; Part B is the transporter, the mode, the vehicle and the consignment note. A bill is queued, generated (with its number and the date it is valid until), and then — as life happens — updated with a new vehicle, extended, or cancelled. Every state of it, and every answer the portal gave, is kept, which is what a roadside check and a later audit both ask for.
The rule tab is the thresholds themselves, per state and dated, so a change in a state's limit is a row and not a new version of the product.
