Day end will not close the day
Either the day has not happened yet, or a shift is still open.
Two reasons, and neither should be forced:
- The day has not happened yet. The outlet's date is ahead of the calendar, so closing it would freeze figures for trade that has not occurred. The date is what is wrong; fix that first, and if it has drifted, tell us before closing anything.
- A cashier shift is still open. Close it — declaring the cash — before closing the day. Cash that has not been counted makes the day's cash figure meaningless.
A day that traded and was never closed keeps accepting postings, so it quietly accumulates several days of sales under one date. If you find one, close the shifts first and then close the days in order, oldest first.
