Setting a hotel up

The first real day

One booking end to end before you rely on it, then the three daily habits.

Do this once with a real booking before the hotel relies on the system. Twenty minutes here finds whatever the setup got wrong, while it is still cheap.

  1. Take a booking. Check the rate that appears — if it prices, the rate sheet is right. Fill in the business source; it is the field everybody skips and the only reason the source reports can answer anything.
  2. Check the guest in. Assign a room, capture identity.
  3. Post a charge, take a payment, check out, and print the tax invoice. Read the invoice properly: the GSTIN, the place of supply, the tax split. This is where a wrong state code shows itself, and it is far cheaper to find here than in a filing.
  4. Run the night audit. Then every single day.
  5. If there is a restaurant: close the cashier shift, then run day end. In that order — day end refuses while a shift is open.
