A guest who arrives in the night: here for last night?

Arriving after midnight but before the hotel's day starts, on a booking for today — the desk is asked whether the guest is here for last night.

A guest walks in at one in the morning with a booking that starts today. Are they last night's guest who arrived late, or an early check-in for tonight? The hotel's day has not started yet, so the system asks:

If last night's day has already been closed, the added night is posted with *(posted late)* on the bill.
